April 29, 2019 – Spartanburg, SC – Contec had their first NASCAR XFINITY experience at Talladega this past Saturday. This was the first of four race sponsorships with JD Motorsports. As an associate sponsor at Talladega, the Contec logo was on the rear quarter panel of both the #4 car driven by Landon Cassill as well as the #10 car driven by Ross Chastain.
At practice on Friday, Chastain was recorded having the fastest speed in the first practice session, and second fastest in the second practice session. According to NBC Sports, Chastain, driving the No. 10 Chevrolet, was the only driver to turn a lap over 193 mph around the 2.66-mile superspeedway, at 193.779 mph.
In Saturday’s qualifying session, Ross Chastain qualified 2nd and Landon Cassill qualified 22nd to start the race.
During the race’s first stage, Chastain led 4 laps, complete Stage 1 in 2nd place.
During Stage 2, Chastain received a penalty for speeding on pit road, causing him to restart at the end of the field. However, he overcame this penalty inching his way back to the front to place 5th in Stage 2. During the final stage, Ross ran near the front and lead for 3 more laps before hitting debris from an accident which caused him to retire from the race, finishing 30th. Landon Cassill navigated several wrecks near the end of the race to finish 9th overall.
Contec representatives in Sales, Marketing, Video Production and Digital Media were at the race documenting the first NASCAR sponsorship with the JD Motorsports #4 car.
“Everyone at JD Motorsports were incredibly accommodating. With this being our first sponsored race, we didn’t know what to expect. Talladega proved its reputation as being a race where precision, speed and timing are critical. We are excited to take this experience and build on it at Michigan where Ross Chastain will drive the #4 Contec car." - Matt Schiering, Chief Marketing Officer with Contec, Inc.
