Spartanburg, SC – March 17, 2020 – This may seem a strange way to start a press release but bear with us. Twenty-two years ago, the dearly departed and globally beloved Mr. Fred Rogers was profiled in an issue of Esquire Magazine. The article, titled “Can you say…Hero?” justifiably touted the children’s television program host as a hero to millions. You may recall that Rogers, ever the humble citizen, is also credited with reminding us that in times of trouble and great stress we should “look for the helpers.” Today, Contec Inc. launches Heroes for Zero™, a podcast and campaign suggesting that “the helpers” and “the heroes” are one-and-the-same.
To date, COVID-19 has infected more than 100,000 worldwide and taken the lives of thousands. Our world is seemingly changing by the hour with more country, state and local governments announcing mitigation strategies and dictums with alarming speed and consternation. People of all ages, creeds and backgrounds are being given similar warnings: avoid large gatherings, wash your hands, practice social distancing.
The R-naught of the COVID-19 has been estimated as 2.2, suggesting that each individual infected will, in turn, infect at least two others. This suggests a doubling of infection rates every 6-7 days on a global scale. While we may never succeed in reducing this factor to Zero, every one of us has the power to pursue this goal. And, in this effort, whether at work, at home or in the communities we share, the seemingly simplest of acts can be defined as heroic.
Heroes for Zero™ will share stories of everyday heroes and everyday actions that have been taken or can be taken to help our collective society move closer to Zero contamination, Zero infections, Zero pass-along of contagion, etc.
Contec® invites everyone who has ever been concerned about what they can do to help themselves or others around them to improve health and good habits to listen in, share your own stories and comment on what we present. It has been suggested that we are all in this together and we will get through this together. We agree and welcome your participation in this unprecedented journey:
