Spartanburg, SC – April 1, 2020 – Contec, Inc., a Spartanburg, SC-based manufacturer of critical cleaning products for the pharmaceutical, med device and healthcare industries is voluntarily ceased production for four (4) business days after learning that a single manufacturing employee at the Locust Grove facility tested positive for COVID-19. The plan is to resume full operations beginning with the 3rd shift at midnight this Sunday evening, April 5th. The company’s Wingo Park and Flatwood facilities will continue to operate, and employees already deployed to telecommute will continue their work as normal.
Per CDC guidelines, employees who may have had direct prolonged exposure to the individual who has tested positive have been notified. Out of an abundance of caution, the Locust Grove facility is temporarily closing to allow time for a deep cleaning as well as to access and implement additional prevention protocols.
Company CEO Jack McBride noted, “We are going to cease our operations at Locust Grove immediately, albeit temporarily. During the shut-down we insist that all of our associates – Locust Grove workers in particular - observe the recommended social distancing protocols and shelter in place at home except for essential activities.”
Contec, Inc., established in 1988, has a long history of collaboration with key public health officials, including the CDC. As Contec values the health and welfare of its associates and the customer-partners they serve above all else, they are taking precautions above and beyond the CDC’s recommendations.
