Remembering Hurricane Helene: One Year Later, a Reflection on Resilience and Community

Written by Contec, Inc. | 9/26/2025
One year ago, Hurricane Helene made landfall and left an indelible mark on our region. Lives were disrupted, homes and businesses were destroyed, and our community was forever changed. As we pause to remember this anniversary, we reflect not only on the devastation but also on the resilience, strength, and compassion that emerged in its wake.

At Contec, Inc., the storm tested our ability to adapt and recover. Like so many others in our area, we faced challenges that seemed insurmountable. Yet in those difficult hours and days, our associates proved that resilience is not just about systems—it’s about people.

One story that stands out is that of our IT team. With critical infrastructure down and operations at risk, they stepped in without hesitation.

Living out Contec’s core value of “Whatever It Takes,” the team worked around the clock to restore servers and ensure our associates had the tools they needed to keep moving forward. Their commitment was not just about business continuity—it was about stability, reassurance, and the ability to serve our customers and community in a time of crisis.

In the weeks that followed, as the full scale of devastation became clear, countless Contec associates came together in another remarkable way—collecting essential supplies for neighbors who needed them most. From bottled water and canned goods to diapers and cleaning supplies, associates gave generously of their time and resources to help families in crisis. These efforts were not organized from the top down, but driven by compassion, teamwork, and a genuine desire to make a difference.

While we recognize the extraordinary efforts of our associates, we also acknowledge the many in our community who were not as fortunate. Families lost homes, livelihoods, and, in some cases, loved ones. Remembering them is just as important as celebrating resilience.

As we look back on the year since Hurricane Helene, Contec remains committed to being more than a business—we are a partner in our community’s growth and recovery. Our associates continue to volunteer, give back, and support those still rebuilding. Because in the end, resilience is not measured by how quickly we return to “normal,” but by how deeply we care for one another when life is anything but.

Together, we reflect. Together, we rebuild. Together, we move forward.
