SPARTANBURG, S.C. – November 27, 2017 – Contec, Inc.’s Elaine and Jim Smith, and Taylor Smith have recently been recognized for their contributions to two Upstate non-profit organizations. The Association of Fundraising Professionals SC, Piedmont Chapter celebrated the 2017 National Philanthropy Day on Wednesday, November 15 at the Embassy Suites on Verdae Boulevard in Greenville. During the luncheon, the AFP recognized philanthropists’ and volunteers’ significant contributions to various non-profit and for-profit organizations across our region.

Elaine and Jim Smith were honored as the United Way of the Piedmont’s Individual/Family Philanthropist of the Year. Jim is one of the co-founders of Contec; Elaine is Director of Human Resources. Both are active members of United Way of the Piedmont’s Alexis de Tocqueville Society and Elaine is also a member of Women United and the Board of Directors. Elaine says, “For us, philanthropic giving means we are recognizing and supporting the need for sustainable transformation in our community, the kind of transformation that leads to a better quality of life for everyone. We love living in Spartanburg and doing what we can to support our community.”

Taylor Smith, Contec HR & Corporate Compliance Manager, has been recognized as the Hope Center for Children’s Outstanding Young Philanthropist.

Molly Moyer, Director of Development for HCFC, wrote of Smith: “Your generosity with your time, talent, and treasure– in addition to your support of HCFC’s special events, United Way campaigns, and other leadership– make you an outstanding partner to HCFC. We are so grateful for you and your passion for children and families.”

National Philanthropy Day® (NPD) is celebrated by the Association of Fundraising Professionals and hundreds of non-profit and for-profit organizations throughout North America. On this special day, we recognize the great philanthropic contributions to the community of philanthropy and those active volunteers who devote their time to advance the efforts of various organizations.

“Contec, Inc. has a long history of philanthropy, volunteerism, and generosity,” says Melissa Sullivan, Sr. Marketing Manager. “As a corporation, we support the United Way, the American Heart Association and many other regional and national non-profits financially and through many volunteer hours. We encourage our full-time associates to participate in community service, with the organization of their choice, and offer up to 40 hours of paid time off for qualified projects. This enables our associates to stay connected to their communities, and positively impacts agencies and organizations that depend heavily on volunteers. It’s truly a great employee benefit!
